The 3 tropes of an Oscar-bait trailer [Advertiser content from Dell]

1 277
“Jaw-dropping.” “From the Academy Award winner.” “Star-studded.” Chances are you already know exactly how to spot a trailer gearing up for the Academy Awards junket. The holidays are primetime for generating Oscar buzz on the year’s biggest movie releases, and movie studios will spend anywhere between $3 million to $10 million per film to capture the attention of Oscar voters. Streaming platforms are also getting in on the Academy Award action, now with new splashy wins from films like Manchester by the Sea (Amazon) and Roma (Netflix).
That means while you’re trying to pick what to watch next, you’re likely to spot some of these tropes littered throughout the trailers for the 2019 releases hankering for a nomination. Hot-button issues in Bombshell? Check. Prosthetics? (Yeah, you’ve got to see the cast member in Bombshell to know that will be a Best Actor nominee.) Nostalgia galore plus “based on a true story” in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood? Check. Watch for more tropes that are hard to miss in this year’s potential nominee films.

They do know how the oscars work right. They aren’t voted on by Film watches but by Film makers so the trailers don’t matter.

This series is fun and insightful, good branded content. But I have to say, you are doing this video a great disservice by adding “Adverstiser content from Dell” in the titel. It gives me (and looking at the view count) and other viewers the impression that this is going to be an advertisement. When in reality it’s just good content that is being sponsored. So please, change the title and let more people enjoy this fun series!

One of the least good Vox videos in a while for me. It lost the facts to people sitting around a computer having opinions no one cares about. Have one person who knows his thing talk about this topic instead of just three people who look good on camera. Rarely does it feel like I’ve learned so little from a Vox video (which is saying that most of your content is golden).

This is a very bad sponsored content. I don't mind it per se, but this one is just bad, and by putting the disclaimer in the name you actually made it worse. You could have integrated dell in a smart way in your usual great episodes and put a standard youtube disclaimer or a title in the beginning. This video will get little views, dell is going to be unhappy, we are unhappy with a miserable in-your-face ad pretending to be content. It either or, you cannot sit on two chairs at the same time. Do product placements but own them

Random Commenter
Random Commenter - 5 mánuðum síðan
@Pronto Stunts should probably have at least a couple categories, like for the stunt coordinators as well as the stuntmen/women.
Pronto - 5 mánuðum síðan
Definitely. Maybe not stunt people, since there could be many, and the person who plans it all out may not be on camera; but 'best stunts' or 'best stunt team'.
crossmas - 5 mánuðum síðan
God yes... been saying this for years... just like costume designers, stunt people plan, prepare, choreo and execute. They deserve their own category

This great movie idea. Let's hire successful actor. Are they gonna hire Tom Hanks as himself for his Oscar-winning autobriographical movie and literally make it the longest movie with full-length features of *every* movie he's been in ON TOP OF the story weaved between before and after, and it ends in a live-stream wherein it follows Tom Hanks to his deathbed.

I don't see how this has anything to do with Dell. Is this content created for Dell? If so why? I am not seeing the Dell connection?
And if this is sponsored by Dell, why is the video marked "Advertiser content"?

Harsh truth, but just like any other art in a competitive social settings, without proper marketing and networking, a beautifully-crafted movie will just be that nice attractive person in school but has weird hair and poor social skill that got overshadowed by the shiny jocks

feels like movies are on a never ending production line, nowadays. I probably see 1% of big movies that come out within a year and I rarely feel like I've missed out on anything. I've become desensitized to trailers.
